What is a Provost?

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer who provides the leadership required to achieve the highest standards in teaching, scholarship, creative activities and service. The primary responsibilities of the Provost are to plan, develop and manage all aspects of the university’s programs, activities, personnel and budgetary affairs, while supporting student success on campus. Additionally, the Provost provides guidance and support for faculty and staff within the university’s seven academic colleges as well as the University Library and SDSU Imperial Valley and several other offices.
