Dr. Amy Bonomi is Dean of the College of Health and Human Services and Professor in the School of Public Health.  A Chicago native, Dr. Bonomi earned her bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from Loyola University of Chicago and her master’s in public health and doctorate in health services from the University of Washington (Seattle).

Across her career as an administrator and faculty member, Dr. Bonomi has led strategic initiatives at the college and university levels to support collaboration among faculty and community partners, increase leadership opportunities for non-tenure track faculty and staff, advance student success and career outcomes, and strengthen the resilience of communities that have been historically underserved.  Dr. Bonomi also founded Social Justice Associates, which offers training and consultation to organizations and agencies, including universities and medical providers to promote healthy, equitable and inclusive working and learning environments.

As an associate dean at Northern Arizona University (NAU), Dr. Bonomi facilitated the foundational visioning session (in collaboration with campus and statewide partners) for a pathway program for students interested in learning to collaborate with community health workers/representatives across Arizona health plans.

Prior to NAU, Dr. Bonomi served as the human development department chair in Michigan State University’s (MSU) College of Social Science, where she was also founding director of the student-focused Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI). Under Dr. Bonomi’s leadership, the department saw significant growth in the percentage of faculty with competitive federal grants, in total federal dollars and in scholarly citations. Dr. Bonomi generated more than $3 million in philanthropic gifts for WLI, including an endowed faculty fellowship and student scholarships.

An internationally known domestic violence researcher, Dr. Bonomi previously served as a faculty member at The Ohio State University (OSU).  Dr. Bonomi’s research contributions have been recognized through multiple awards, including a Distinguished Scholar Award at OSU and as a Diversity Champion designee at MSU. Dr. Bonomi serves as co-chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is an elected peer reviewer for the CDC and the U.S. Department of Justice.
