Dr. Steven P. Hooker is a Professor in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and Associate Dean of Research in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University where he has been since 2011. Dr. Hooker’s research is focused on physical activity and aging and community-based participatory approaches to promote healthy lifestyles among midlife and older racial/ethnic minority men. He has over 100 peer-reviewed published papers and obtained over $17 million in funding from National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and several private foundations. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and National Academy of Kinesiology. Dr. Hooker served as Director of the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center for 8 years (2003-2011) and Chief of the California Department of Health Services Physical Activity & Health Initiative for 5 years (1998-2003). He earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Science from Arizona State University in 1988.
