Dr. Steven P. Hooker is Dean of the College of Health & Human Services and Professor of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences at San Diego State University. He has served in this position since 2018. Previously, Dr. Hooker was a Professor in Exercise Science and Health Promotion and Associate Dean of Research in the College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University from 2011-2018. Dr. Hooker’s research is focused on physical activity and aging and community-based participatory approaches to promote healthy lifestyles among midlife and older racial/ethnic minority men and their families. He has over 200 peer-reviewed published papers and obtained over $20 million in funding from National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and several private foundations. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and National Academy of Kinesiology (#528). Dr. Hooker served as Director of the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center for 8 years (2003-2011) and Chief of the California Department of Health Services Physical Activity & Health Initiative for 5 years (1998-2003). He earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Science from Arizona State University in 1988.
